finally identified the bass line - it's "Lickin Stick" by James Brown. EDIT: Darn - should have read the comments - looks like multiple people found out before me. but i heard Licking Stick on the radio randomly and was like "Wait a minute!" and then spend the next hour thinking about where i know that bassline from. and then it clicked :)
